Life Getting Tougher for Auto Suppliers: Former automotive industry executive Jim Gray, now of KPN Advisors, points out that supplier costs account for about 65% of total car costs for automakers. That means you can expect to see manufacturers get even tougher with their suppliers. The new versions of Chrysler and GM will aggressively claw for supplier price reductions to attract private investors, and Ford won't be staying in the wings. Margins for suppliers are already razor-thin, and will shrink further with the anticipated 30% cut in automotive production volume. Click here to read the entire Jim Gray commentary.
