On a brisk October day in Chicago, a few employees from the design firm Ideo left their office and headed to Knife & Tine, a restaurant about four miles away.
The goal, besides lunch, was to complete the journey within 45 minutes, on a budget of just $10 for the whole group, all while carrying bulky shopping bags.
This was not a party game, but the kind of immersive research that defines the work of Ideo, a global design firm whose clients have included Samsung, 3M, Anheuser-Busch and, on this day, Ford.

Google is putting out the “Help Wanted” sign, and it could signal a major shift in plans for its Google X autonomous vehicle program.
For the last several years, the high-tech firm has said it doesn’t want to produce its own vehicles but would rather find partners – a term used by Google X CEO John Krafcik during a visit to Detroit last month.

Airbags keep proliferating throughout the interiors of our automobiles. What started out in the steering wheel soon multiplied to the dashboard, door panels, seat frames, window frames, knee panels, and elsewhere. The next frontier for airbag installation, however, may not be inside the vehicle, but on the outside.

What are your thoughts about this statement: “We cannot be motivated by others….only influenced.”
Hmm, so many times we look to our supervisor, various leaders in the community, coaches to motivate us into action. Yet if we think about it, are they really getting us to move? Who decides whether we put in extra hours at work to meet deadlines, or go into the office when we are not feeling 100%? I do! Individually, I decide if I will put in the time or not.
I decide if the reward is worth the effort, not my supervisor, community leader, coach, or professor. I decide.

The Car Connection
Over the past decade and a half, much of the world has changed the way that it consumes media. We download music in seconds, rather than visiting record shops. We use gadgets like Roku and apps like Sling instead of keeping pricey cable TV subscriptions. And most of us emptied our gloveboxes of service station roadmaps years ago. (Though in fairness, we stopped stowing our gloves there ages ago, too.)
At the center of all these changes sits one device: the smartphone. And according to Autotrader’s Car Tech Impact Study, the ease with which auto shoppers can pair their smartphone with a car’s infotainment system is a major factor in purchase decisions.
